About The Wine

The name is inspired by the word “virtue”, and the product speaks for itself. It is a synonym for power, force, effectiveness, strength. By giving priority to the unique properties of the grape over its ageing process and giving a voice to its essence, Bodegas Virtus has been able to make a balanced, complex and velvety wine, with an intense nose.

It is a wine based on organic 100% Tempranillo , supported by the manual work of green pruning, leaf removal and thinning of grape clusters. Seeking the toasty, smoky and spicy notes to surround and support the expression of the variety.

The vines that are more than 60 years old. And all practices applying sustainable viticulture.

La Horra and Hontoria de Valdearados, are sunny slopes located at an altitude of 850 m. The soil is of  loamy texture, chalky with some gravel.

Alcoholic fermentation: plot by plot vinification, in small stainless-steel tanks.
Gentle extraction using the bazuqueo technique.

Malolactic élevage in French oak barrels. 24-month maturation on fine lees, in the same barrels.

Meet The Winemaker

Bodegas Virtus
Paloma Escribano, heir to a long-standing winemaking tradition and one of the first female entrepreneurs in the industry in the Ribera de Duero region, made her reputation on the basis of her wines’ impressive quality, and being a visionary in matters relating to innovation, bio-dynamism, sustainability and respect for natural processes. After several years, the time came to hand it over to the next generation. Iñigo López de la Osa Escribano, with his wife Francesca Franco and with the support of the whole family, relaunched the project in 2012
