Niepoort Wine Tasting
Very Special Guest ANA OSORIO Returns
The Wines of Niepoort
And the Stories Behind Them
Last summer, Ana Osorio gave us one of the best tastings of the year — so we did the only sensible thing and asked her back. This time she returns with a different set of bottles and the same infectious love for one of Portugal’s most remarkable wineries.
Niepoort was founded in 1842 and is now led by the visionary Dirk Niepoort, a winemaker who has turned the family house into an international benchmark for doing things its own way — always balancing deep tradition with restless creativity, across both Port and still wines.
A defining part of Dirk’s philosophy is his long friendships with gifted winemakers and historic estates across Portugal and beyond — partnerships that celebrate regional character, shared knowledge and a genuine passion for exceptional wine. Tonight is your chance to taste the results and hear the stories behind them: the craftsmanship, the friendships and the vision that have made Niepoort one of the most admired names in wine.
Whether you’re a devoted Douro fan or simply someone who loves a great glass in good company, Ana will make you feel right at home.

Niepoort is one of the most esteemed names in the world of Port wines, with a legacy dating back to 1842. The company was founded by Dutchman Franciscus Marius van der Niepoort, and over the generations, it has remained a family-run business. Known for their commitment to tradition and innovation, Niepoort has maintained a strong connection to its Portuguese roots while embracing modern viticulture techniques. Their vineyards are located in the Douro Valley, the heart of Port wine production, where they cultivate grapes in steep, terraced landscapes.
Niepoort is renowned for its meticulously crafted vintage ports and diverse range of styles, including Late Bottled Vintage (LBV), Tawny, and Colheita Ports. The brand stands out for its minimal intervention approach, allowing the wines to reflect the unique terroir of the Douro Valley. With Dirk Niepoort at the helm, the company has further expanded its reputation by focusing on sustainability, organic farming, and experimenting with new wine expressions.
Through its commitment to both quality and heritage, Niepoort continues to be a symbol of excellence in the world of Port, making it a perfect choice for any discerning wine enthusiast.
This concise overview adds a historical and cultural dimension to the tasting event, emphasizing the brand’s importance in the world of Port wines.

A Fresh Line-Up for Ana’s Return
Fio Riesling 2016 — Mosel, Germany
Not everything Niepoort makes is Portuguese. Fio is Dirk’s avant-garde Riesling from the steep slate slopes of Germany’s Mosel — a joint venture with the Kettern family, who have made wine there for centuries. “Fio” means “thread”: the one that ties the two families together.
Ururabo Flor 2019 — Douro, Portugal
A Douro white with a Jerez soul. Made from Gouveio grown on Douro slate, then aged under a living veil of flor in old Sherry casks — a rare team-up with the legendary Equipo Navazos. Barely a couple of thousand bottles exist. “Ururabo” means “flower.”
Batuta 2023 — Douro, Vale de Mendiz
Niepoort’s “conductor’s baton.” Drawn from gnarled old vines high in the cool Vale de Mendiz, Batuta has been one of the Douro’s benchmark reds since 1999 — elegant, ageworthy and anything but shy.
Charme 2022 — Douro, Vale de Mendiz
Dirk’s love letter to Burgundy, grown in the Douro. Charme comes from vines aged 70 to over 100 years, foot-trodden in granite lagares and raised in old port pipes. The name is a promise.
Niepoort 20 Years — Tawny Port, Douro
Two decades in the making. A tawny blended to an average of 20 years and patiently aged in old 550-litre pipes in the Niepoort cellars — the sweet, nutty grand finale to the evening.
