This one surprised me. Utiel-Requena is usually the land of Bobal, so I didn’t expect a Bordeaux-style blend from up there to be this polished. It’s the top red from Bodegas Nodus, and it has become a real talking point at the counter.
The name means ‘eight holm oaks’, after the centuries-old encinas that stand guard over the vineyards on the family estate at Caudete de las Fuentes. The grapes come from some of the oldest, lowest-yielding vines on the property, farmed organically on the high inland plateau, where hot days and cold nights give the fruit both ripeness and freshness. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc are fermented separately in small open vats so the team can manage every detail of extraction, then the wine spends a year in new French oak and another year resting in bottle before it’s released.
In the glass it’s deep, dark red with a violet rim. On the nose you get blackcurrant and black cherry, cracked black pepper and clove, with a toasty edge from the barrel. The palate is round, generous and velvety, with balanced acidity and a long, fruity finish.
Open it with a slow-cooked beef stew, roast duck, or a proper Valencian gazpacho manchego with rabbit and game. It also loves a ripe cured cheese.

| Group Coordinator. | In order to book your event we require a single coordinator of your group. As the Group Coordinator you are responsible for all communications with Martha’s Vineyard. You ensure that all group members are at least 18 years old. You will be responsible for the payment of any deposit and final payment at the event. The final payment may be split between members of your group but you take sole responsibility that the final payment is completed in full. |
| Deposit | To Conform your booking we require a 50% deposit of the total payable amount for your event. The balance must be paid before the event. |
| Changes to Booking | You may make changes to the number of guests in your party prior to the event provided that you do not fall below the minimum acceptable group count of 10. You must inform Martha’s Vineyard of your requested changes and receive confirmation that the changes are acceptable. Please note: You will not be able to remove guests from your party within 5 days of the event. You may add guests to your event up until 2 days prior to your event. |
| Refunds | Once you have completed your booking you may request a refund of any deposit if you cancel your booking. Please note that if you wish to cancel the booking entirely or in part less than 3 days prior to the event you will be required to pay the full price of the event. As group coordinator you are solely responsible to complete this payment on or before the date of the event. |
