The Art of Aging – Barrel vs. Bottle-Aged Wines
Does Age Make the Wine?
Join us for an exclusive evening exploring the art of aging and the fascinating difference between barrel aging vs. bottle aging in some of Spain’s most prestigious wines.
This guided tasting will take you through the evolution of Crianzas, Reservas, and Gran Reservas from Rioja and Ribera del Duero, where time plays a crucial role in shaping flavor, texture, and complexity.
What You’ll Experience:
🍷 Side-by-side tastings of wines at different stages of aging, revealing how oak aging enhances richness and structure, while bottle aging refines and softens a wine’s profile.
🪵 A deep dive into the science of aging, exploring how tannins, oxygen, and time transform a wine.
👃 A sensory journey guided by Martha, where you’ll learn to recognize key tasting notes, understand ideal aging potential, and determine when to drink a bottle at its peak.
Wines We’ll Taste:
✨ Pago de Tharsys Gran Reserva Brut Nature C.B – A sparkling start to awaken the senses.
🍇 Abel Mendoza – A standout Rioja, known for its balance of fruit and structure.
🍷 Arrocal Crianza – Aged for at least a year in oak, showcasing vibrant fruit with subtle spice.
🛢️ Arrocal Reserva – Aged longer for greater depth, smoothness, and complexity.
🕰️ Arrocal Gran Reserva – The pinnacle of aging, offering elegance, finesse, and layers of evolved flavors.
