Women in Wine
FOUR WINEMAKERS. FOUR WINES. AND ALL FOUR OF THEM IN THE ROOM.
This one is different. We are not simply pouring wines made by brilliant women — the women themselves are coming to Moraira to pour them for you.
Four of Spain’s most talented winemakers, each bringing the wine she is proudest of and the story of how it got into the bottle. From the Marina Alta to Ribeiro, Rueda to Ribera del Duero.
Four women. Four wines. And the rare chance to ask the maker exactly what you want to know.
🍾 THE LINEUP 🍾
🥂 Àmfora — Les Frèses, DO Alicante
Mara Baño makes wine in Jesús Pobre, just up the road from us, and ferments this 100% Moscatel de Alejandría in clay amphorae the way it was done here for centuries. Golden and completely dry, with jasmine, chamomile and fennel, and a fresh-butter finish. Awarded gold as the best wine of Alicante in 2025 — and Mara will present it herself.
🥂 SIAH — Isabel Salgado, DO Ribeiro
Isabel is back at Martha’s with SIAH: Treixadura, Godello and Albariño from old plots around Leiro, on the slopes above the Avia. Vines of thirty and fifty years, Atlantic air coming up the Miño — a white with serious depth behind all that freshness. She will walk you through every bit of it.
🥂 Begoña Jovellar Verdejo — Rueda
100% Verdejo from the heart of Rueda, made by Begoña Jovellar herself — bright citrus, cool-night tension and real finesse. Begoña is coming to explain exactly why her Verdejo tastes nothing like the one in the supermarket.
🥂 Alonso del Yerro María — Ribera del Duero
The family’s flagship, named after María del Yerro — and María is coming to pour it. Made only in the best years from old Tinto Fino: elegance, poise and quiet class. Ask her about the vintages she chose not to make.
YOUR HOST
Martha hosts the evening alongside them. She runs the room like a conversation, not a lecture: she will want to know which wines speak to you and why, she will ask you to score your favourites, and with four winemakers standing in front of you there has never been a better night to ask the things you have always wondered about. Join in as much or as little as you like; questions are always encouraged.
