Born to make history . A pioneering, independent and current character resulting from the evolution of a famous family of great wines.
Recognized, distinguished and praised for the authenticity of his temperament, Alión today symbolizes a universal spirit with a vocation for the future.
Wine made from the Tinto Fino variety. It is harvested by hand in 12 kg boxes and immediately taken to the winery to be placed on the selection tables. Fermentations are carried out in wooden tanks with temperature control until a good polyphenol extraction is obtained, which will provide the generous color and firm structure that constitute part of the personality of this wine; and finally, a passage through wood and cement for between 12 and 14 months, depending on the characteristics of the vintage, is carried out entirely in new French oak Bordeaux barrels. These barrels from the most prestigious brands in Bordeaux represent a significant investment in oak because, harvest after harvest, all the wine made in Alión will remain in new barrels that, after being abandoned to be bottled, will not be used again by the winery.
Once the wine is removed from the barrels, it will remain for no less than 15 months in the stillness of the bottle, where it will finish assembling all the primary aromas of the fruit with the nuances provided by its delicate aging, resulting in a fleshy wine. , complex and intense, but in which elegance plays as a differentiating element and hallmark of the winery.
Alión is made up of a careful selection of terroirs spread across the best areas of the Ribera del Duero designation of origin. These soils that complement each other, together with the same viticulture that is done in Vega Sicilia, have given rise to wines with a firm structure.
2018 was a vintage that reflects a climate with Atlantic influence, with more rainfall than usual, cool temperatures and a relatively late harvest, between September 28 and October 12.
In this vintage Vega Sicilia opened a production facility with half-capacity tanks, which allowed them to be more precise when making the extraction. It was a vintage where they increased the impact of the new wood up to 80%, especially that of American origin which reached 10%, seeking to give more sucrocity and sweetness to the wine.
2018 was an Atlantic vintage, fresh with this Alión being a more vertical, more tense and elegant expression.
Vines average age 38 years old.
