About The Wine

James Suckling rated 93pts.

At the end of the journey, we remember only one battle: the one we fought against ourselves, the original enemy, the one that defined us. And it is from this sentence that El Enemigo was born, a collection of wines that vindicates the power of a terroir in Mendoza (Argentina) that until very recently has not been recognized as it deserves. From the hand of the historian Adrianna Catena (daughter of the Argentine wine promoter Nicolás Catena Zapata) and the prestigious winegrower Alejandor Vigil (chief winemaker of Catena Zapata), Bodega Aleanna was born, a project that wants to reclaim the culture of wine from authenticity, history and traditions. To do this, they advocate minimal intervention and maximum expression of the terroir.

And what better way to delve into the origin than by creating El Enemigo Malbec, a red wine made mainly with the star variety of Argentina and the favorite grape of this enterprising winemaker (so much so that he even has the name of this grape tattooed on his forearm). . A Malbec that is accompanied by a small percentage of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc and whose three varieties are born in vineyards located in Gualtallary (Tupungato) at an approximate altitude of 1,470 meters above sea level. Respectful agriculture is practiced and yields are limited. Once in the winery, half of the harvest is destemmed and the rest is left as a complete bunch. Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts and at a controlled temperature. Finally, the wine ages in second and third use French oak foudres for 15 months.

In the search for the perfect integration of wood and fruit, El Enemigo Malbec was born. A fleshy, lively and elegant wine that delights us with its great transparency and that reveals the great potential hidden behind the new Argentina. An Argentina that makes friends with its own and holds it tightly to be able to offer us beautiful creations like this.
