In 2013, the characteristics of these vineyards, along with the uniqueness of the wines produced, managed to capture the attention of the Ruiz Aragoneses family, owner of the Pago de Carraovejas winery, which acquired the majority of the shares of this winery and incorporated it to its family group of companies. The combination of an extreme climate, pre-phylloxera vineyards up to 200 years old and the good work and experience that the Alma Carraovejas group, owner of Ossian, possesses, manages to give birth to a different Verdejo. In this 2020 vintage, Ossian maintains its already characteristic elegance and freshness, to which they add a surprising delicacy and a long, restful finish with which the authentic character of the Nieva environment appears again.
Small plots of pre-phylloxera vines, ungrafted, planted in glass. Viticulture in accordance with organic certification standards and with the recovery of traditional local methods. Old strains, some up to 200 years old. Soil of sand and pebbles, both of which prevented the arrival of phylloxera that devastated the European vineyard.
The harvest began on September 9 and lasted until October 5 and took place in small boxes.
After lightly pressing the grapes, the must from each separate plot was transferred to vats and wooden barrels of between 228 and 600 liters to ferment spontaneously with native yeasts.
Aged for approximately 9 months on its lees.
