About this wine

Deep dark cherry red dress, with good clean and shiny coat. Light aging aromas with a predominance of fruit. In the mouth, well-integrated acidity and a broad but fresh finish without too much glycerinity but intense in flavors. Suitable to accompany fatty fish, fine charcuterie (Iberian), sausages and all kinds of roasted or grilled meats or even feathered game.

Curiosity: One of the most important factors is the Sierra de Cantabria. Its influence on the microclimate is noteworthy for protecting the vineyards and the region from the cold and humid winds that come from the North and Northwest, giving the microclimate of the Rioja Alavesa a more Mediterranean character and viticulture an ideal maturation.

Meet the winemaker

Gomez de Segura

Gómez de Segura is one of those Rioja Alavesa bodegas that has been quietly doing things right since 1948. Tucked away in Laguardia — the walled medieval village that sits like a crown above the vineyards — the family has 50 hectares of old-vine Tempranillo surrounding the winery, and they've never needed to look far for their grapes.Today it's Ana Gómez de Segura who leads the third generation, keeping the traditional approach alive while adding her own touch. The wines are made using carbonic maceration for freshness, pressing with particular care, and ageing in the deep underground cellars that keep a constant 14°C year-round. These are honest, characterful Riojas made by a family who knows their land — and it shows in every glass.
